Kristy Rans was born and raised in South Bend. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and English from Purdue University and received her law degree from Valparaiso University. Eleven years ago she married the love of her life, Ryan Rans, a local real estate developer and Managing Partner of Great Lakes Capital. In 2005 she co-founded Gardner & Rans P.C., a law firm in downtown South Bend, with Martin Gardner, who she began working with nearly 15 years ago. The firm provides legal services for injured persons, insurance companies and businesses throughout Northern Indiana in both state and federal court. When not working, Kristy can be found spending time with her husband, hanging out with her retired horse Hanna who she has had since the age of 11, showing her horse Sophie in the sport of Dressage or cuddling with her rescue dogs Otis and Spencer.

Just In A Day's Work:

How did you choose your line of work?
At a very young age, I did a report on Abraham Lincoln and how he became a lawyer and the work he did for his clients. It completely mesmerized me. He was highly respected for the help he was able to give to his clients. From that time forward I wanted to be a lawyer to help those in my community work through difficult legal issues.
What is the best business advice you have received?
If you are doing your best, you will not have time to worry about failure.
Who inspires you professionally?
My mentor and law partner, Martin Gardner, who I have worked with for the past 15 years. He is an amazing attorney, litigator and person. I have learned almost everything I know about being a lawyer from watching him on a day-to-day basis.
What is your single best piece of advice for women in business?
I believe that if you work hard, never stop learning and believe in yourself, opportunities will be endless.
